Street Art of the East End *

If you really want to know London then its Street Art is a top priority. You’ll see where London’s street art fever began as well as the backstreets and alleyways of Shoreditch. You’ll visit SPITALFIELDS MARKET and BRICK LANE as you make your way to where Banksy kept us thoughtfully amused and where artists from around the world and around the corner share their art today.

In the footsteps of Dr Samuel Johnson *

This walk takes you back to 1700s London and into the life of Dr Samuel Johnson as he works on his momentous ‘Dictionary of the English Language’. We’ll conjure up the London he knew and the social circles he mixed with. You’ll visit DR JOHNSON’S HOUSE and see the attic where he laboured on his famous dictionary. And you’ll get to know this fascinating, complex man who gave us the dictionary of all English dictionaries !

London in Quotations – Westminster Walk *

“TWENTY bridges from Tower to Kew wanted to know what the River knew” (The River’s Tale by Rudyard Kipling). With quotations from literature and the words of the great and the good, you’ll walk alongside the Thames, you’ll see some of London’s most famous sights including the Houses of Parliament, Trafalgar Square and bustling Covent Garden market. You’ll visit the magnificent BANQUETING HOUSE, with its fabulous Rubens ceiling, and you’ll see where King Charles I faced his death on the scaffold.

Canary Wharf and The Isle of Dogs

A drink in one of the cosiest and most historical riverside pubs of London ? That’s the enticing end to this short walk which starts where dockers used to unload ships from the West Indies. In between start and finish you’ll explore the modern development of CANARY WHARF: look up to the skyscrapers and look down into the maze of shopping malls. Shopping done ? Then let’s indulge in a stroll through the roof gardens of Crossrail Place before finding that pub.

City of London

From a Roman frontier post to a 21st century financial centre, that’s the City of Contrasts you’ll explore on this short walk. The old and the new meet each other here. You’ll visit tiny hidden churches, seek out parts of the original Roman wall, experience the alleyways where the Great Fire of London took hold in 1666 and where the coffee houses set the scene for London’s trade. You’ll see the Bank of England, The Royal Exchange and Sir Christopher Wren’s masterpiece, St Paul’s Cathedral. How about evensong at the Cathedral to round off your day ?

Legal London

If you like hidden courtyards and squares, halls and churches then let me show you legal London. The famous Inns of Court are an enchanting oasis of calm. Here you’ll get the chance to explore the legends of the Knights Templar when we pop into Temple Church, one of the oldest buildings in London. You’ll pass Middle Temple Hall, visit the Royal Courts of Justice and, if your program allows, observe proceedings in Blackfriars Crown Court. Once a solicitor practising in London, I’d be happy to show you around.

Royal Greenwich

Two of the best views in London mark the start and finish of this tour ! Greenwich oozes its maritime past. You’ll visit the National Maritime Museum, the dignified Queens House, the church where King Henry VIII was baptised and the Royal Observatory. With its bustling market, its royal park and some of the best riverside pubs in town, Royal Greenwich seems to have it all.
